Give me some advice!

What do you do when you have something that doesn't really fit into your decor anymore, but it is very special to you? I'm not going to throw it away or anything, but I also hate to just put it away. It's a wall hanging that my mil made for Mark and I when we got married. I really like it, but when we painted the kitchen it just happened to be the wrong color w/ the wall. It doesn't go in any other room either, so I can't just move it. I appreciate any ideas!

Brie's home!!

She got home @ 11:15 last night! I think she was excited to be home, she talked non stop for a long time! We are very thankful that she had a safe trip, thanks for praying for her!

Scripture Time

1 Peter 2:1-3

1Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Well I wish I could say that these verses are not a stumbling block for me, but of course they are. I wish that I was always craving that pure spiritual milk. I know I should be and really I do have a desire to. But I let life get in the way much too often. I want to live a life that is set apart from the world, a life where people can look at me and not wonder what I'm about. I think I fail miserably. It is something I need to work on a lot.

Father~ I know I don't have to be perfect because you sent your son to die for my sins. I can't thank you enough for that. Help me to change my ways and grow in my salvation. In your name, Amen.

Scripture Time

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

I love this verse. I don't think about it all the time, but I should. No matter what I should be rejoicing.

I know this isn't 1 peter, but I just got home a little bit ago and I'm tired.

Father~ Thank you for being something we can rejoice in. Life may not always be easy, we may have a lot to work through, but we can still know that your here with us and that we need to be rejoicing always. Keep Brie and John safe as they're flying right now if it's your will. In your name Amen.

Things I Love Thursday

We listen to Christian radio (WFRN) and thankfully both kids listen to it and enjoy it too. During rest time they have their radios on and listen to the tunes. The thing I love is that Zeke will be walking around doing something and just breaks out in a song. It's many different songs but my favorite one he started singing is "Free to be me" by Francesca B. If you've never heard it I linked to it below.

Striped Delight recipe

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup melted butter
1 pkg cream cheese(8 oz.) softened
1/4 cup sugar
2T. milk
1 8 oz. cool whip
2 pkg. Jello chocolate and butterscotch
3 cups milk (1 1/2 for each pudding)

Combine graham crackers, sugar and butter to make crust. Press into a 9x13 pan. Beat cream cheese, sugar, and milk until smooth. Fold in 1/2 cool whip (I don't fold quite that much in) and then spread over crust. Make the pudding w/ the milk, spread over the cream cheese mixture. Then spread the remaining cool whip on top and refrigerate. You could use different puddings if desired.

Practical Tip Tuesday

If you have kids who love to be active then this tip is for you! Get a pedometer and challenge your child to get so many steps a day. I've been cleaning and organizing and found one, it didn't have a battery though. I remembered that I had another one so I got it out and Zeke RAN around almost the whole afternoon. Zeke loves numbers too so it's double fun for him, getting exercise and getting to check his numbers. If you have more than one child I can see that it would be wise to have more than one pedometer. And if you, like me could loose a few pounds get one for your self and see who can get the most steps you or your kids!

Scripture Time

1 Peter 1:22-25

22Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.[b] 23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25but the word of the Lord stands forever."[c] And this is the word that was preached to you.

I love verse 24-25. It's great to think about. We will all fade and wither, but God won't. It's so important to know God's word, I struggle with this, but I'm trying to do better. I know I should be living like the verses in Deuteronomy where you talk about it all the time, but I don't. Something to work on.

Father~ Thank you for a new day. It is so reassuring to know that you will never fade you will always be. Help me to be in your word more and more every day and to teach the kids too. In your name Amen.

Scripture Time

1 Peter 1:17-21

17Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. 18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

Hair cuts!

The boys got haircuts just in time for some winter weather! Oh well! Titus has never had a buzz cut he did pretty good with it, a little scared of the clippers.

Zeke doesn't like his picture being taken so I told him he could take one of me if I could take one of him. Well He decided to make it a close up of Reuben!

Fly Fly Fly!

Well my baby girl took off this morning. We are tracking her flight so we can see where she is. She is flying over Nebraska right now. It's kind of fun to see where she is, even though we can't actually see her plane. Thanks for praying for her! I can't wait to hear what she thought of flying!

Scripture Time

1 Peter 1:13-16

13Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

I think we all know that we are to live as Christ, and try to be like him in all we do. That is (in my case) easier said than done. I know how I'm supposed to live, but everyday multiple times I mess up. Thankfully I know it's forgiven. I also know that's not an excuse for me to live like I want. I need to be accountable and remember to live for Christ.

Father~ Help me to be a light for you. Help me to be living in way that pleases you. In your name, Amen

Scripture Time

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

11 is my favorite verse. It gives me a lot of comfort, which is nice especially on days like today. I feel good about Brie flying I know God loves her far more than I do and he is in control. I have put it in his hands. I think she will have a good time. They could have some interesting happenings. I've had more bathroom conversations w/ my fil than I ever thought I could, but when a little girl is traveling with a man you have to talk about it. I pray that it all goes w/ out any problems for them. The last time Brie flew she was 2.5 so she doesn't remember it at all. I know she's a little nervous and very excited so pray that she can relax and just enjoy herself, she doesn't know much of the family out in Oregon considering we don't get out there to see them and vice versa.

Father~ Thank you for this day. Thank you for your word and the comfort it brings. Help John to drive carefully and help them to have a safe flight. I know your with them, help Brie to remember that, and help her to have a great time. In your name, Amen.

Things I Love Thursday

I think since Brie leaves tonight (really tomorrow morning) she will be my thing I love! She is such a beautiful girl. She loves to be girly, but at the same time loves to get dirty w/ the boys! It's good she likes to be dirty since she has 3 brothers.(almost!) She loves to be creative and do art. You can go here to see more things people love.

Scripture Time

1 Peter 1:3-12

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

I know this is a lot for one day, but what a beautiful message. This should give us such a peace and an inner joy. Our inheritance can never spoil, perish, or fade, if we are saved we can't be plucked from the masters hands.

Father~ Wow you are so good to us, even tho we don't deserve it. Thank you for giving us an inheritance through your son. In your name Amen.

Practical Tip Tuesday

My tip is to use Vinegar as your cleaner. Most cleaners have lots of chemicals in them. I have a spray bottle and I fill it half full of white distilled vinegar and half full of water. I clean counters, bathrooms, floors, and appliances. You can also use it for your softner in laundry.

Scripture Time

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord w/ all your heart lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths.

I'm needing these verses today. It's been a little rough here. We started the day w/ Titus falling off the table. He's been told not to get up there, but what do you expect w/ a 22 month old! I'm hoping that helped him learn to listen a little better. You may ask what was I doing letting my little boy on the table. We were doing bible for school and the phone rang. It was my mil wondering if we would let Brie go to Oregon w/ them for 6 days. So I called Mark to see how he felt about Brie traveling w/ his parents out to Oregon? And that's when Ka Boom goes Titus! Brie gets to fly out w/ her Grandpa this Friday. I'm really excited that she gets to go, but also being a parent I'm really not wanting her to go. I also am jealous because I love Oregon such a beautiful state. I wish I could go too! Zeke of course is a little jealous too, but I told him we'd do some special stuff and I'm hoping that will help! I told him maybe we could go to Chuck E Cheese's and he said yeah lets go for 2 days!! So if you have any ideas for this time of year of something fun let me have them!
I know God's in control and I just need to lean on him!

Deuteronomy 6:5
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Joshua 23:11
So be very careful to love the LORD your God.

Psalm 18:1
I love you, O LORD, my strength.

Psalm 36:5
Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Psalm 36:7
How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 63:3
Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

I decided since it's Valentines day I would share some verses about Love. God is the creator of love. This V-day I hope you can show love to others as well as to God. I love the last verse Psalm 63:3. That should speak to us believers. Have a great day and weekend!!

Father~ Thank you for creating love help us to love at all times even when we don't feel like it. We know according to your commandments that we are to love you above all others and love our neighbors as ourselves. Help my lips to glorify you in all things because your love is better than life. Help me to live out that verse Lord. In your name Amen.

Fun Idea

Mark and I don't have any plans for V-day this year. After supper last night I jokingly said well maybe we should go get an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. Well we decided that sounded like a good idea so around 7:30 we got the kids in their jammies and drove to Dairy Queen. On the way we decided to play a game. (this is the fun idea, not that ice cream cakes aren't fun...) I started so the kids understood what they were supposed to do. I said one thing I loved about every person in our family. It is fun to hear what the kids say and fun for them to hear a particular thing that you love about them. Have fun if you give it a try, and have a great Valentines day!

Favorite Recipes

As I'm getting closer to the birth of Reuben, I'm feeling the need to do some cooking/baking. I've been doing really well w/ making supper and keeping the house most of the way straightened. I'm planning on making bread, rolls, bread sticks, and hamburger buns for the freezer. I decided today that maybe some cookies and muffins would be nice too. I can't have to many (cookies) on hand or I will eat them all. So what are your favorite cookie/muffin recipes? Also any tried and true freezer meals would be great. I know the more I have done the easier it is!

Scripture Time

1 Peter 1:1-2

1 This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ.
I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. 2 God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
May God give you more and more grace and peace.

I decided to just keep going. Peter is the author he's writing to God's chosen people. This is an introduction, but it has a wonderful reminder in it. God knew you and chose you long ago, the same is true for us.

Father~ Thank you for choosing us and giving us the opportunity to obey you. In your name Amen.

Scripture Time

I'm not sure where I'm going to head next. I'm going to do a proverb today that's been on my heart lately.

15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

I'm trying hard to live by this verse of course not doing as well as I would like, but I'm trying.

2/9/09

Does this work for you?

I decided to change things up a bit! Spring Fever I suppose! Can you read it OK? You can go to thecutestblogontheblock.com and change your blog too, it's really easy!

Scripture Time

James 5: 13-20

13 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.
16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. 17 Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! 18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.
Restore Wandering Believers 19 My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, 20 you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.

I think these verses show us how important prayer is. In saying that I don't pray as much as I should or as earnestly as I should. I do pray, but I always think I need to be doing it more. I know it's an easy thing to do so I'm going to challenge myself to pray more. If you want to join the challenge leave a comment and let me know, so I can pray for you as well!

Father~ Thank you so much for listening to our prayers and answering them too. Help me to spend more time with you. In your name Amen.

Poor little boy!

My poor little Titus. He doesn't get to go outside much b/c it would mean that I have to go outside too. He is almost 22 months old and I just can't trust him outside or his siblings to watch him outside. So what's a boy to do.........

That's right just wear your boots around the house! He will often bring me his coat or a mitten too!

Scripture Time

James 5: 7-12

7 Dear brothers and sisters,[c] be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. 8 You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.
9 Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look—the Judge is standing at the door!
10 For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.
12 But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.

I don't think I have anything to add to this!

Father~ Thank you for a new day. Help us to be patient in waiting for your coming. In your name Amen.

2/5/09

Scripture Time

James 5:1-6

1 Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. 2 Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags. 3 Your gold and silver have become worthless. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This treasure you have accumulated will stand as evidence against you on the day of judgment. 4 For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The wages you held back cry out against you. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
5 You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and killed innocent people,[
a] who do not resist you.[b]

The "rich people" have put their trust in their money instead of in God. I know I've struggled w/ this from time to time. More than I should probably. I know the things of this earth will pass away and I need to be living according to God's will, but I'm not perfect and still struggle. Praise the Lord that I'm forgiven, that he made the ultimate sacrifice for me.

Father~ Thank you for sending your one and only son to die for our sins and save us. If we are living like the rich help us to repent and turn to you and your word for the right way to live. In your name Amen.

2/4/09

Scripture Time

James 4:13-17

13Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." 14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." 16As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. 17Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

Well again these are pretty self explanatory. We need to be sure we are including God in our decisions. We shouldn't make plans with out talking to him first, letting him be in control.

Father~ Help us to remember to be talking to you on a regular basis. Help us to try to remember to seek your will for our life before we make decisions. In your name Amen.

2/3/09

Scripture Time

James 4:10-11

11Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?

Well these verses are self explanatory, or at least I think so. We aren't supposed to slander or judge others. We need to remember that there is only one Lawgiver and Judge and we need to leave it in his hands.

Father~ I think at times we've all been guilty of judging someone, forgive us and help us to remember that your the Judge. Thank you for this day Lord. In your name Amen.
